3rd Grade Crush
When I was in third grade I developed my first BIG crush on my best friend Gabe Alvarez’s sister Maria, who was WAY older; a sixth grader. She was really cool to me and would always play flirt with me, which I always thought was amazing. Fond memories are going over to the Alvarez house and Maria holding me underwater in their pool until I nearly passed out, it was worth it to swim with her.
I remember my parents picking me up and driving me home. “Mom, this is it, I am in love. Like for real! Not only is she funny, but she told me she can cook enchiladas from scratch! (Eyes widen and heartbeats speed up) This is serious.”
I never did wind up winning her heart. A few weeks later she started going out with another sixth grader (and old guy) who (killer of killers) was a really awesome dude and I couldn’t be mad. Though I remember wishing it was me she was beating up and holding under the water.
